Founded in 2014, Curated Wine Group is a Charleston, South Carolina based importer and distributor specializing in independently estates and distilleries.

Matt Maksimowitz

PARTNER / GENERAL MANAGER

Matt has spent the past 25 years in wine distribution, excelling at building teams, sales management, supplier relations, and strategic business growth. Matt got his start in wine directly out of college and then spent three years with Charmer Beverage where he led the on-premise sales team in the Charleston region. In 2004 Matt co-founded Carolina Wine Source, one of the early, fine wine distributors in the SC market. He ran the day-to-day operations of the business up to the sale of the company to The Country Vintner in 2011. Matt then spent 11 years at The Country Vintner through its transition to The Vintner Group and finally to Winebow.

Prior to joining Curated Wine Group, Matt was Vice President of Sales over both the North Carolina and South Carolina markets where he managed a team of 35 sales professionals. Matt is passionate about the wines of Champagne, Piedmont, Tuscany, Burgundy, & Oregon.

David Townsend

PARTNER

David recently took full ownership of Curated Wine Group and will lend his decades of experience in the wine industry in a consultative role.

A native of Virginia, David has been in the wine business since the mid-1990s when he joined a small Virginia wine distributor to follow his dream of building a wine business. For over 20 years, David led The Country Vintner as it became one of the largest fine wine distributors in the country. In 2014, David merged The Country Vintner with Winebow and led the company as President & CEO for an additional four years. By the time David stepped down from the company in 2018, it had grown to encompass 18 distributed markets and operated as an importer to all 50 states.

David’s passion for the fine wine industry has continued with his involvement in several of the country’s leading fine wine importers and distributors, including becoming the owner of Curated Wine Group. Throughout his career David has had the ability to successfully put his vision into practice by bringing elite teams together to execute a strategic plan.
